Brewtal Box #17

In July the Brewtal Box brings our subscribers beers from one of the breweries most influential in the Italian beer scene, and in addition to a Basque project elaborated with a lot of passion and honesty.

CR/AK

CR/AK (Creative Revolution, Alternative Knowledge) is a brewery from Padua (Italy) founded by three young surfing entrepreneurs (Anthony, Claudio and Marco) who in just 4 years have managed to significantly influence significant the Italian beer scene. Awarded the 2018 Birrificio dell'Anno award, its concept is to produce “maverick” beers that dare to combine unusual ingredients with massive doses of hops, always treating these with great respect but without compromise. The only unwavering commitment: balance and integrity! In addition to producing fantastic and highly original beers, the label designs on their bottles and cans are highly recognizable and eye-catching, always carrying a photo, illustration or anything else that evokes "that" particular beer, always maintaining a concept of break (cra-c-k), like the “slash” in your logo.

The people responsible for inspiring us with the design of their labels are the guys from Studio Dry Design.

Beer: GUERRILA
Estyle: IPA
ABV: 5.8 IBU: 43

In its 40cl format (unusual in Spain) Guerrilla is a “Subversive” IPA, capable of exploiting violent exotic aromas, given by large doses of American and Australian hops: Mosaic, Simcoe and Galaxy , giving the latter a strong tropical character, mango, pineapple and grapefruit. The malts and American yeast used make it very dry with a pleasant and persistent bitter finish. La Guerrilla has been awarded several prizes, including the Honorable Mention in the Birra dell'Anno 2017 contest.

Beer: NEW ZEALAND
Style: Gluten Free IPA
ABV: 7.0 IBU: -

This bomb Pacific gluten-free, brewed with a potent load of hops from New Zealand: Motueka and Wakatu, releases an intense aroma of tropical fruits and citrus. With the typical “sweetness” of this type of hops, in the mouth, New Zealand gives a feeling of softness and little bitterness that hides its high alcohol content (7%). A truly distinctive experience!

What began in 2010 as a hobby of “home brewing” in search of a change from the boring beer scene industrial, it became a professional business in 2014, the year in which five Basque friends founded Laugar in Gordexola (Vizcaya). Its philosophy has been very since its founding: “quality versus quantity in a product made with passion and honesty”. To date, they have released more than 70 recipes to the market and their founders Eneko, Eder, Sergio, Aingeru and Txus like to call them "rebel beers".

Hand in hand with illustrator David Monge and Crisiscreativa studio, Laugar has managed to build a visual universe, making their labels and the characters that represent each beer unmistakable.

Beer: EPA!
Style: Euskal Pale Ale
ABV: 5.2 IBU: 40

Laugar's first official beer, the EPA! it is a reinterpretation (you can say Basque) of an American Pale Ale. Pale and refreshing in profile, citrus flavors and aromas predominate and floral with a notable bitterness due to its powerful load of American hops Columbus, Chinook, and Cascade. The flavor is moderately sweet and then bitter with a dry finish. Perfect for a warm summer day!

Beer: BASURDE
Style: Amber Ale
ABV:5.0 IBU: 60

La Basurde is a very elegant amber beer with a malty flavor, herbal aromas and a floral and citric touch due to the load of hops. The flavor is balanced between the sweetness of the malt and the bitterness of the hops. A balanced, refreshing beer with a rather dry and bitter finish, and a hoppy aftertaste. A classic example of Amber Ale!
