Brewtal Box #050 / APR 2022 - LA PIRATA & SOMA BEER
There are already 50 Brewtal Boxes since our launch in 2018, and this month we wanted to include beakers from some of the first brewers that we included in those first editions of the Brewtal Box when only a few were bottled in cans in Spain and Soma Beer did it with a manual canner. We present the last four news from La Pirata and Soma Beer that we have included in Brewtal Box #50.
Ramón Prats is the founder and brewer of Soma Beer. His story with beer began as a hobby. A nature lover, he used to live in a self-sufficient farmhouse in Pla de L'Estany from where his curiosity and desire to work his imagination led him to buy his first home-brewing book and do his first experiments. SOMA is an infinite search for quality, to excel production after production and always betting on the quality of the ingredients and the care in the processes. With a name and concept that refers to the core of a space, and that Aldous Huxley in his book "A Brave New World" described as the drug of complete and instant happiness, SOMA Beer offers a sensory, home-made beer experience and in the that hops are the protagonist.
Incendiary, artisan and natural: La Pirata is a benchmark for artisan beer in Spain, and has been chosen as the best national brewer on several occasions. They spent more than a decade as “homebrewers”, and after many batches they brought that pirate beer out of hiding and in 2012 began their nomadic phase, that is, producing in other brewers' factories. This only lasted 3 years, when they opened their own brewery in Súria, Catalonia after winning the award for best national brewery at the Fira del Poblenou (Barcelona).

Beer: DON'T JIX IT
Style: Double IPA
In a brewery many things can go very wrong. That is why in SOMA they have a rule, and that is that if the beer is going well: "don't jix it". Following its tradition of hazy and hoppy beers, SOMA comes to continue creating fantasies with this tropical explosion. With a cloudy appearance and an intense farm aroma provided by the Strata hops, this beer has an alcoholic kick that prevents us from drinking it like a fruit juice, which is what makes you want to try it!

In the mouth we find a powerful, malty, hoppy beer with a hint of alcohol. With some complexity due to the different nuances of cereal and hops at the same time. Great battle between sweet and bitter.
