Brewtal Box #020 / OCT 2019 - BRASSERIE DIEU DU CIEL & PÜHASTE BREWERY

CANADA AND ESTONIA!

At Brewtal we continue to explore craft beers from other latitudes outside of Spain. This October our selection combines beers from Estonia, with a couple of styles from the avant-garde guys from Pühaste, with beers from Canada, from where we bring you two styles from the passionate brewers from Dieu du Sky.

DIEU DU SKY

Brasserie Dieu du Ciel opened its doors in 1998 by its founders Jean-François Gravel and Stephane Ostiguy, who armed with zero business knowledge, very little money and the desire to create a place For Montrealers to enjoy good craft beer, they opened a pub in the heart of Montreal's Plateau-Mont-Royal neighborhood. It was in 2001 that they made a name for themselves with a truly experimental coffee beer called “Péché Mortel” (mortal sin), which within a short time reached the number two position on ratebeer. com The guys at Dieu du Ciel are ambitious, curious, a bit eccentric, and the beers they brew are almost like science experiments. Delicious science experiments! In addition, they are frequent collaborators with other top-tier breweries around the world.

Beer: BLANCHE DU PARADIS

Style: Belgian Wheat Ale

Belgian-style unfiltered wheat beer made with coriander seeds and Curacao orange peel, which are spices typical of this style of beer. It contains almost as much wheat as malted barley and features a veil of yeast and protein, giving this style the name "Blanche" (white). Round and light at the same time, it exhales a delicate and refreshing bouquet of citrus and spices that can be felt on the aromas of freshly baked bread. Refreshing, with subtle hints of acidity from the wheat. It is recommended to pair with seafood, rice, pasta and tortillas.

Beer: PASSION HOUBLON

Style: IPA

This passion fruit flavored IPA is the first experiment of Dieu du Ciel's "Project Synergy". This project is a space for the creation of beers, favoring exchanges and collaboration between Dieu du Ciel brewers. La Passion Houblon is a foamy, light and very refreshing beer that leaves an intense aroma of passion fruit on the nose, due to the use of hops with tropical aromas. On the palate, the texture is creamy, somewhat resembling fruit juice, but more refreshing. The finish is slightly acidic, which ultimately makes it an IPA for thirst par excellence. Its refreshing side is perfect for sausages!

PÜHASTE BREWERY

Based in Tartu, Estonia's second largest city, Pühaste Brewery has been quietly building its reputation as one of Estonia's most exciting new craft breweries. Its brewmaster, Eero Mander, began brewing in 2011 in a summer cabin in the village of Pühaste, 50 km. from Tartu. After producing for a time as a “gypsy brewery”, mainly at the brewery of the famous brewery Pohjala, Pühaste finally opened its own brewery in September 2016, and its beers are now exported to Germany, Spain, Finland, France, Latvia, the Netherlands, Norway, the United Kingdom, Russia and Sweden.

Beer: ALLIKAS

Style: NEIPA

Allikas is a “New England India Pale Ale” or NEIPA style beer. Cloudy and juicy, brewed with El Dorado, Enigma and Ekuanot hops. Its aroma is a mixture of tropical fruits with some hints of wood.
