Brewtal Box #025 / MARCH 2020 - PRESSURE DROP BREWING & WYLIE BREWERY
The March Brewtal Box has come loaded with very fresh beer (freshly canned) from Wyile Brewery in Sitges (Catalonia), and from the guys from Pressure Drop in North London England).

Ben, Sam and Graham started Pressure Drop Brewing in the summer of 2012 (during the Olympics!) in Graham's garden shed in Stoke Newington, London. Inspired by the variety and flavors of beers produced by The Kernel, Darkstar, Redemption, and more broadly, the E. AND USA , the three aficionados began developing their own beers in a 50-litre Braumeister kit. The first few beers weren't very good, but after a few months of “playing around”, they started to improve. In late 2012, armed with encouraging feedback from London geeks, they upgraded their kit to 5BBL and moved to Hackney Central (East London), spending a short time before finding their permanent home in Tottenham Hale (North London). London) next to the famous Beavertow Brewery. This created a collaborative environment between both breweries that has improved the fan experience. Since its founding, Pressure Drop's mission has always been to create modern interpretations of beers to capture the imagination of craft beer aficionados.

If there is one beer that makes Ben, Sam and Graham reflect on the true meaning of 'Pressure Drop', it is precisely Pale Fire, which has been the brand's flagship beer and the beer that has been brewed religiously all the weeks since they founded Pressure Drop. With tropical aromas from the American Mosaic and Amarillo hops, Pale Fire shows a juicy pale color when served and when drunk its flavor is smooth, refreshing and with a well-balanced bitter finish. A friendly and ideal beer to enjoy the coming days of the Spanish spring!

Style: Unfiltered Pilsner

It is a pilsner (unfiltered) that is stored in a tank for six weeks, during the Christmas holidays, which achieves great freshness and a rather "crunchy" texture. In its elaboration, the guys from Pressure Drop use the famous German hops Mittelfruh and Perle which give it a light and classic bitterness. Great Heights is a delicious, refreshing beer and also without complications. They say that “a great pilsner is a simple and true joy”, and aren't those the best joys you can have? As a curious note, the illustration on the label is by the Japanese artist Natsko Seki, who also did illustrations about London for the Louis Vuiton travel guide.

Wylie Brewery was founded in 2015 by Scotsman Grahame Wylie and Californian Shane Main who established their brewery and a pub in the famous Catalan town of Sitges. It is an artisan 'microbrewery' with a production capacity of about 50,000 liters per year, whose beers have become known throughout Spain for the award for best new beer that they won at the Barcelona Beer Festival 2018. Wylie has managed to win over a significant audience with its limited edition beers, many of which are super hoppy IPAs. They have opted to satisfy a niche of consumers in search of limited editions of IPAs and for this reason they have dedicated themselves to producing all their variants, but mainly they concentrate on DIPAs, NEIPAs and SIPAs. Its curious labels are designed by Jon Berkeley a very important illustrator who also illustrates the covers of magazines such as The Economist or l'Express.

Beer: WOUND UP!

Just coming out of the fermenter less than a week ago (couldn't be any fresher!), Wound Up! is a very refreshing, aromatic and somewhat dry version of a classic New England IPA (NEIPA). For its preparation, the guys from Wylie used Mosaic and Citra hops, which produce very tropical aromas and flavors, and added a good amount of oats to give it the turbidity that a NEIPA deserves. The Wound Up! it arrives just in time for the soon change of season and the rise in temperatures! Its name was conceived thinking about those moments when we are stressed or nervous (wound up in English), and you drink a good beer and everything goes away.

Beer: BUCHLA BONGOS
Style: Double IPA

The Buchla Bongos (curious name, right?) is part of a series of beers with which the boys from Wylie, both being big fans of electronic music, pay homage to the first synthesizers with which they started making this kind of music. This also inspired Jon Berkeley to design his ingenious label where he illustrates the circuits of synthesizers with their 'patches' and components. This beer, also just a few days out of the fermenter, brings you plenty of Mosaic and Lora hops and best of all: the fruitiness of a traditional NEIPA with hints of pine, just like you'd find in the woods of Vermont! In the mouth this DIPA you will find that it has a discreet, warm and comforting finish at the alcohol level.
