Brewtal Box #043 / SEP 2021 - CARAVELLE BREWERY

CARAVELLE BREWERY

We must admit that the Caravelle Brewery project is one of our favorites and we were waiting for the right moment to have it back in the Brewtal Box. The Australian Polly, his brewmaster, invited us to the 'brewery' to taste his latest creations and we fell in love with these four beers, which also fit perfectly with the season. All beers between 5.5% and 6.7% ABV. Refreshing and with many aromas and flavors. Caravelle's history dates back to 2014 when Zim and Poppy, its founders and also Australians, collaborated with Art Cervesers (Catalonia) to brew the famous 'Galactic Pale Ale', one of Caravelle's flagship beers today. In 2016 they began their own production, of barely 200 liters per batch, in a space next to their Caravelle restaurant, in Barcelona's Raval. It was a period in which they dedicated themselves to making good beers. IPAs and Pale Ales, which are beers that pair well with the restaurant's delicious tacos and pork ribs. Just before the Covid19 lockdown, they opened the brewery in St. Adriá (Barcelona), where they have been in charge of ensuring that their beers are a living reflection of the lifestyle in Barcelona: “sun and beach, a 'freak party' at home of a perfect stranger in one of those old warehouses in Poble Nou, outdoor festivals, drinking in the park, grabbing that last table on the terrace with some friends and sitting there all night, rooftop barbecues that end at dawn , The good stuff”. Their labels are designed by Hey Studio in Barcelona, and the result is very cool labels!

Beer: CANDY KINGDOM

Style: Fruited Sour

This fruity sour is the latest of Caravelle's summer releases. At 5.5% ABV, this Philly sour is packed with passion fruit, mango, and banana puree, on a base of pale malt, oats, wheat, and a ton of lactose. It's a creamy, tangy tropical banger that's practically designed for the last days of summer. Never forget the 4 essential elements of the Candy Kingdom: ice, fire, candy and lemon. Don't you think this series of labels designed by Hey Studio Barcelona (@heystudio) are super pretty?

Beer: GRINGO MULE

Style: Mexican Lager

For the boys of Caravelle, summer is not summer if you don't drink and enjoy a good lager on the beach. This is why Polly got to work and produced a light, citrusy lager, very Mexico-style. A light, golden ale brewed with a ton of flaked corn, Pilsner malt and loads of Sabro neomexicanus hops in the process known as 'Whirlpool'. To boost the desired Mexican citrus flavors in this refreshing beer, Polly added Motueka hops and fresh lime zest, then left this baby in the fermenter for 6 weeks, after which it was crisp, clean and clear. We recommend drinking the Gringo Mule with a lemon wedge, just like they do in Mexico with Coronas!

Beer: LICKETY SPLIT

Style: Milkshake IPA

This IPA is honestly pure cream, and that's because of the ton of lactose added to give it that creaminess. The tropical touch so kind that you will feel in the nose and mouth will make you feel on a Caribbean beach, and this touch is given by the Idaho 7, Mosaic and Rakau hops. This beer looks like some kind of summer pina colada that as soon as you open it, it's ready to cool you down and crush your taste buds (but of course, it's beer!). If you look at the design that Hay Studio did for the Candy Kingdom, the Gringo Mule and this beer, it seems to be inspired by the waves of the sea, on the beach. Just looking at them makes you want to drink them!
